Why Do We March?
On May 24, 2014 activists around the world will unite to March Against Monsanto. http://www.march-against-monsanto.com/p/blog-page_5.html
It has come to the attention of many consumers that the conventional food we eat today is adulterated with many additives, artificial chemicals & colors and even genetic modified organisms (GMOs) from seed to plate.
At the end of April during the National Organic Standards Board (NOSB) Meeting in Dallas, one of the people’s most vociferous voices political director Alexis Baden-Mayer of the Organic Consumer’s Association (OCA) got taken to jail for protesting this “sunset process” rule change.
Dropping of this rule removed control of organic standards away from the people and into the pockets of the bottom-line of corporations while contaminating the food supply with additives, chemicals and GMOs.
Last September, ‘USDA representative Miles McEvoy appointed himself as the meeting “co-chair” illegally in an effort to erode the authority and control the decisions made by an allegedly independent NOSB members, as spelled out in the Organic Foods Production Act (OFPA) of 1990. ‘
Protesters went to the meeting to call attention to the USDA National Organic Program’s (NOP) changes to the “sunset process” and removal of non-organic ingredients and allowances for artificial and synthetic chemicals and vaccines from the NOP’s National List of prohibited in products certified as organic by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). (OCA – http://www.organicconsumers.org/articles/article_29920.cfm)
Ҥ205.600 Evaluation criteria for allowed and prohibited substances, methods, and ingredients.
§205.601 Synthetic substances allowed for use in organic crop production.
§205.602 Nonsynthetic substances prohibited for use in organic crop production.
§205.603 Synthetic substances allowed for use in organic livestock production.
§205.604 Nonsynthetic substances prohibited for use in organic livestock production.
§205.605 Nonagricultural (nonorganic) substances allowed as ingredients in or on processed products labeled as “organic” or “made with organic (specified ingredients or food group(s)).”
§205.606 Nonorganically produced agricultural products allowed as ingredients in or on processed products labeled as “organic.”
§205.607 Amending the National List.
(eCFR – “The National List of Allowed and Prohibited Substances” http://tinyurl.com/mrpljpd )”
Dropping this “sunset process” allows up to 90 percent of all synthetic substances and vaccines in organic food production to be generally recognized as safe (GRAS).
Last September, the USDA without public comment or input no longer requires the sunset process, whereas a 15 member committee appointed by the Secretary of Agriculture decided what was approved or removed from the National List of non-organic materials for use in organic products.
The removal the five year “sunset process” to evaluate and remove synthetic and artificial substances will open the floodgates for up to 90 percent of all GRAS approved substances and forever alter what the organic label’s intention stood in contention against.
Corporations stand to gain by dropping the the sunset process, the U.S. Department of Agriculture represented by the Organic Trade Association actors from Kraft, Dean Foods and Smucker’s. Together they all engineered this stunning reversal and sneak attack on the organic label standard.
Thus enables China, one of the United States largest food importers, while other corporations can further erode any legal interpretation about which foods are organic and which pretend to be organic.
On Saturday May 24, 2014, we can march and show the industry how much we know and begin our campaign of informing others about a state focused petition for the “right to know,” and “labeling the truth” in Ohio and other states.
We can inform others to follow the OCA, as they create a new organic trade organization outside the NOP and NOSB that will be where most consumers should spend their money. We can also inform people about how pesticides and GMOs can be responsible for bees’ colony collapse disorder, and how we can help by spreading wildflowers and seed bombs.
If we cannot travel to the actions in your local area we can inform others about the march through word of mouth and email. Do not depend on Facebook. The top two hedge funds have heavy investments in Facebook and own a significant controlling influence in Monsanto.
“The top shareholder, at the moment, in Monsanto is The Vanguard Group, which is number two on the list of top Facebook shareholders.
FMR, LLC, is the number one Facebook shareholder. For Monsanto, it’s number two.
The State Street Corporation is the number three shareholder for both Facebook and Monsanto.
BlackRock Institutional Trust Company is Monsanto’s number five shareholder, and ranks at number four for Facebook.
The other top dozen shareholders of both Monsanto and Facebook are Jennison Associates, Sands Capital Management, and the Vanguard Total Stock Market Index Fund. (Jon Rappoport, http://livefreelivenatural.com/facebook-monsanto-basically-owned-people/#sthash.ulmlgQom.dpuf)”
Let’s all begin to work together and safely rid ourselves of the menace in our food system once and for all times. The costs to our health and the health of our friends and neighbors depends on all of us doing this together.
