Journalists were pepper sprayed on the ground recording the St. Louis protest on October 10, 2014, after the shooting deaths of: Mike Brown, 18, Vonderrit Myers Jr., 18 and Kajieme Powell, 23.
Local and national media reported Myers Jr.’s past felony record for carrying a weapon unlicensed and who stood on a sidewalk as a possible bystander while holding a sandwich.
Myers minded his own business, until the off duty officer who earlier chased a man with a beef that fit his description took off on foot while shooting at the officer.
The officer who moonlights as a security guard thought Myers was the criminal he had gotten into an earlier beef with.
That off duty officer then fled the scene. The officer remains unnamed by the STL. Police Department.
This marks the fourth possible unarmed American citizen from a low income minority group to be killed by police: Mike Brown, St. Louis, Mo., John Crawford III Beavercreek, Ohio, Dillon Taylor Salt Lake, Utah, and Vonderrit Meyers Jr. of St. Louis.
In each instance, the police released either the criminal history and cited drug use as causes for non-compliance. Are the police still fooling anybody anymore?
Update: Meyers was not a felon and had no criminal record.
