A married Pittsburgh couple filed a lawsuit against the city after a police officer tazered and arrested the father, who was removed in mourning his dead son.
Approximately two years ago, their son Mileek Grissom, 23, injured in a shooting in June of 2012. He was taken to the UPMC Mercy hospital, where he later died.
After Earl Baldwin Jr. and Troi Baldwin were called to view their son’s body, Mr. Baldwin placed his head next to Grissom’s and began to whisper in his ear.
The Baldwins’ allege, an officer at the hospital who viewed this act, grabbed Mr. Baldwin from behind and tried to force him away from the medical bed, while Mr. Baldwin held onto it.
The unsuccessful attempt by the officer then led to Mr. Baldwin being tazed, handcuffed and ejected from UPMC hospital grounds involuntarily without additional charges.
Meanwhile, his wife was also prevented from even being able to be near her son by hospital staff.
The Baldwin’s lawsuit against the city seeks damages for violations of their constitutional rights. Also, named in the lawsuit are the unnamed officer, the hospital and medical personnel.
